The AdaptiHand operation, promoted by INAUTOM Robótica and co-funded by COMPETE 2030, is a response to the automation challenges that the plastics industry faces on a daily basis. INAUTOM Robótica, a leading Portuguese company specialising in the production of Cartesian robots, is reinforcing its commitment to creating innovative technological solutions capable of optimising and simplifying production processes with this initiative.

‘INAUTOM Robótica is the only Portuguese company specialising in the production of Cartesian robots for the plastics industry. Every day, our customers face automation challenges and our mission is to offer innovative solutions that help them make their processes more efficient. To this end, we are driving forward the development of our NEO Cartesian robot, keeping pace with technological advances and strengthening our presence on the international market,’ explains Fábio Roleiro, AdaptiHand’s head of operations.

The AdaptiHand operation was born out of a specific need identified by several customers looking for ways to produce more efficiently and sustainably. This solution introduces a reconfigurable and adaptable tool, complemented by advanced vision and control systems, to automatically generate trajectories and optimise production management. In this way, automation evolves to higher levels of flexibility and speed, reducing set-up times and waste.

‘With the support of COMPETE 2030, we are working to integrate this solution into our robot, making it even more competitive both nationally and internationally,’ adds the head of the operation. INAUTOM Robótica thus wants to position the NEO Cartesian robot at the top of industrial automation solutions, with a special focus on the thermoplastics processing sector, but not only that. The flexibility offered by the adaptive tool and the vision system can be applied in various segments that depend on handling parts in production.

Among the goals set is the development of innovative technologies capable of eliminating the need for specific grippers for each product, allowing the handling of parts with variable geometries and in different positions. There is also the creation of a new vision system that aids this adaptive handling, improving the programming and generation of trajectories during production. To ensure that these solutions reach the field effectively, methodologies and guidelines are defined that support the implementation of the operation in multiple industries. Finally, it is essential to validate these approaches in a real environment, analysing results and comparing them with traditional methods to prove the system’s efficiency.

In addition to the direct impact on industrial production, the AdaptiHand operation also promotes more sustainable practices by cutting downtime and reducing material waste. The robust Research and Development component underpins INAUTOM Robótica’s competitive edge, ensuring skilled employment and maximising the company’s export capacity. Thanks to this continuous commitment to innovation, both partnerships with clients and Portugal’s position on the global automation technology scene are strengthened.

As a national reference, INAUTOM Robótica, through this operation, reaffirms the role of the Portuguese industry at the forefront of technological development. AdaptiHand not only consolidates internal competitiveness, but also opens the door to exploring new markets, promoting solutions that serve different sectors.
