Projects supported by European funds with proven impact in the regions can apply until 22 May 2026.

The new edition of the REGIOSTARS Awards is now underway. The initiative recognises projects funded by the European Union that transform territories and improve the lives of communities.

Organised annually by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy since 2008, REGIOSTARS has established itself as the European seal of excellence in regional development. Over the years, it has recognised innovative, sustainable and inclusive initiatives.

The search for the best projects of 2026 has now begun.

An opportunity to show impact

Has your project brought about real change in the region? Has it introduced new approaches? Has it created lasting economic, social or environmental benefits?

Then this is the right opportunity.

Applications are open until 22 May 2026 and must be submitted via the EU Survey REGIOSTARS form. Only proposals submitted via this channel are eligible.

In addition, projects can be submitted in any official language of the European Union.

Last year, the Ecogres 4.0 project, co-financed by COMPETE 2020, was a finalist in the ‘Green Europe’ category. European recognition reinforced the initiative’s international profile.

Five categories in the competition

As in previous editions, projects compete in five categories aligned with the objectives of cohesion policy:

  • A competitive and smart Europe
  • A green Europe
  • A connected Europe
  • A social and inclusive Europe
  • A Europe closer to its citizens

This thematic diversity allows projects with different impacts and approaches to be highlighted.

How the winners are chosen

A jury of high-level academics evaluates the applications. It then selects the winners during the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels in October.

At the same time, the public also participates. Citizens vote online for their favourite project among the 25 finalists.

The winners are announced at the REGIOSTARS ceremony. In addition to the prize, they receive a mini European promotional campaign.

Prepare your application

Promoters have access to various supporting documents. These include the guide for applicants, frequently asked questions and the necessary submission templates.

Each application must include a statement of support signed by the managing authority.

So, if you are leading a European Union-funded project with proven impact, go ahead. Show your results. Inspire other regions. And take your initiative further in Europe.
