Grestel, an industrial unit of the COSTA NOVA Group, was recently honoured with the ‘Industry of the Future’ Award, an initiative promoted by Floene, the largest gas distribution operator in Portugal.

Grestel’s initiatives include Ecogres®, which includes the first industrial firing of stoneware tableware in a kiln fuelled by a mixture of 50% natural gas and hydrogen, an unprecedented feat in Europe. This project, in partnership with the University of Aveiro, was co-funded by COMPETE 2020 and was the only Portuguese finalist in the ‘Green Europe’ category of the REGIOSTARS 2024 Awards.
Jorge Carneiro, head of R&D at Grestel, said that this award is ‘recognition for the work carried out in innovating sustainable processes and products’, emphasising that ‘the use of renewable gases in industrial equipment has been tested and validated, guaranteeing that Grestel is at the forefront of sustainable production’.
