The SmartProduce operation is revolutionising the agricultural sector by developing an intelligent tool that optimises resources, promotes sustainability and integrates artificial intelligence algorithms.

The SmartProduce operation, co-financed by COMPETE 2030, is using artificial intelligence to transform agricultural management. The solution combines automated collection of agro-climatic data with advanced algorithms, offering producers an innovative tool that optimises resources and promotes environmental sustainability.

Intelligence at the service of agriculture

The operation responds to the need for more complete solutions to the challenges facing the agricultural sector. ‘SmartProduce aims to develop a system with cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence algorithms, which integrates the automated collection of agro-climatic data in the field,’ emphasises Hugo Cardoso, Skillent’s Technical Coordinator.

With this tool, farmers will be able to monitor their farms in real time, receive automated alerts and predict crop production. This translates into more efficient management of resources such as fertilisers, pesticides, water and energy, contributing to more sustainable practices.

Modularity and ease of use

The solution is based on the FIWARE platform, promoted by the European Commission, which integrates sensory data collected in the field and global market information. This modular system will allow farmers to gradually adopt the necessary instruments, adjusting to their needs and investments.

‘The operation leverages essential strategic resources, thanks to COMPETE 2030, allowing us to speed up its implementation,’ emphasises Hugo Cardoso.

Viticulture as a test bed

The Portuguese wine sector was chosen as the validation field due to its economic importance and quality requirements. The project promises to increase the competitiveness of farms and prepare the sector for the challenges of Agriculture 4.0.

With five main objectives, including predictive modelling and migration strategies for intelligent agricultural systems, SmartProduce marks a decisive step in innovation in the agricultural sector in Portugal.
